    For both new and experienced ceramics students of all skill levels. New students will begin with the basics of clay hand building techniques such as pinch pots, slab rolling and coils. Textures, color, shape and differing styles are introduced as well as glazing and finishing techniques. Time permitting we work on the basics of throwing on the potter's wheel. Experienced students can continue to refine their skills and work on ceramic projects of their own choice. The studio will be open for independent ceramic projects; instructional aid is available for individualized assistance, project ideas and technical expertise. Students can practice wheel throwing, hand building and have access to high-fire and low-fire glaze applications. All supplies are included in the fee, including firings done by the on-site instructor.

    285410 - CPR/AED and FA

    This course follows the strict guidelines of the American Red Cross. Our instructors are required to follow these guidelines at all times. This class is taught as a blended learning course, which means that part of the course is completed by the participant prior to attending the first day of class. A link to the on-line portion of the class is emailed out 1 week prior to class and the estimated completion time is 3 hours. Proof of completion of the on-line course must be turned in to Kate Futty (kfutty@dublin.oh.us) no later than the first day of class. The purpose of the American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers course is to teach those with a duty to act (professional rescuers and health care providers) the knowledge and skills needed to respond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies. This includes the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to care for a victim experiencing cardiac arrest. This course will also teach skills that participants need to know to give immediate care to a suddenly injured or ill person until more advanced medical personnel arrive and take over.

    346009 - Paddle in the City- Adults

    Paddle in the City is a community based introductory kayak guided paddling course series offered by HERO USA. All HERO instructors are ACA certified instructors. We offer the ACA quick start to paddling curriculum designed for novice paddlers. The course is intended to introduce the participants to kayaking and canoeing. There must be a minimum of 10 participants in order to run this class. Children are required to register w/ a parent or guardian.

    Participants will be participating in a guided paddle from the new access point at Amberleigh park to the take out point at 6245 Kiwanis Riverway Park. This section of the Scioto is gentle with some small riffles. There is an opportunity to catch some wildlife: Many bird species including blue herons and hawks, ducks, turtles and potentially a beaver or even a deer.

    Participants will have the ability to choose wither a single kayak or a tandem kayak with a partner. HERO USA instructors will cover all the basic safety aspects of paddling. Students will learn the proper technique for operating their boat and on water instruction on navigation.

    We ask that students bring water, sunscreen, a change of clothes and a towel and wear close toed shoes or water shoes (no flip flops).

    HERO USA is a 501©3 non profit organization who offers outdoor adventure sports training to under resourced youth. Our partners include The Boys and Girls Club of Columbus and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio. A portion of the proceeds of Paddle in the City classes are allocated to offering this same program free of charge to our community youth participants.
